Georgia Holds 2026 Primary Elections, Including State Supreme Court Races
Georgia voters headed to the polls Tuesday, May 19, as the state holds its 2026 primary elections — a contest that will shape the field for November’s general election across a wide range of state and local races.
While most contests on the ballot are partisan primaries to determine each party’s nominees, Georgia’s Supreme Court races are being decided outright in Tuesday’s vote, making them among the most consequential items before voters this cycle.
Polling locations across the state are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. are permitted to cast their ballots. Georgians are required to vote at their designated polling place, which can be confirmed through the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page or by contacting their county’s Board of Registrar’s Office.
The primary comes amid a competitive cycle in Georgia, where Republicans have dominated campaign spending and Democrats have reported record turnout figures in early voting periods leading up to election day.
Several down-ballot races are drawing national attention, including contests involving candidates tied to ongoing debates within both parties over the direction of the Republican and Democratic coalitions heading into the fall. Among the watched primaries nationally is the question of whether Republicans who voted to convict President Trump can survive reelection challenges in states where Trump remains broadly popular.
Results from Georgia’s primary races are expected to begin coming in after polls close Tuesday evening.
