Why It Matters

Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry expects between 48% and 52% of registered voters to participate in Tuesday’s midterm election. The ballot includes a U.S. Senate race, other statewide and local contests, and 10 constitutional amendments.

What Happened

Trey Williams shared Landry’s turnout projection Monday afternoon. The estimate would place participation near levels recorded in Louisiana’s previous three midterm elections.

Julia Letlow and Jamie Davis are competing for the U.S. Senate seat. Voters will also decide races for the U.S. House, Louisiana Public Service Commission, the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, several judicial contests, and local government offices.

Landry asked voters to respect election commissioners working at polling places Tuesday. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters who are in line by 8 p.m. will be permitted to cast ballots.

Louisiana residents can verify their registration through GeauxVote.com or its smartphone application. Election questions can be directed to the Secretary of State’s Election Hotline.
