Joining the NASA officials were U.S. Rep. The group outlined a three-phase strategy to establish a sustained human presence on the moon.

Isaacman emphasized that the mission requires a diverse workforce beyond just pilots. He noted that technicians, entrepreneurs, researchers, operators, and explorers are all critical components of the effort.

“You could help us build the moon base. You could operate it in mission control,” Isaacman told the students, as first reported by the Iowa Capital Dispatch.

The administration selected the moon’s south pole as the primary exploration site due to its unique lighting conditions, which offer a mix of sunlight and permanently shadowed regions that may contain ancient scientific data.

President Cook highlighted the significance of the university’s role in this national endeavor.
